Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 September 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Stache, a personal finance app that helps you track expenses by logging transactions manually or by scanning receipts. By using Stache, you agree to these Terms.

The service

Stache lets you log expenses, scan receipts, organise spending into categories, and set budgets, so you can keep track of your money without the stress of manual bookkeeping. Stache is currently available on iOS only.

Accounts

You can create an account with an email address and password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google Sign-In. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for the activity that happens under your account.

Free tier

Stache is free to use, with unlimited manual expense logging and category budgets. The following are one-off allowances rather than monthly ones — once used, they do not reset:

Premium tier

Stache Premium unlocks unlimited receipt scans, unlimited AI-powered spending insights, and unlimited monthly statements. Premium is billed through Apple at R29.99 per month or R249.99 per year.

To keep the service running reliably, Premium accounts are subject to a fair-use ceiling on automated AI requests per day. This is set well above normal personal use and you are unlikely to encounter it.

Subscriptions and billing

Subscriptions are sold and charged by Apple through your Apple Account, and are managed on our side using RevenueCat, which records only whether your subscription is active. We never receive your payment card details.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You can cancel at any time in your Apple Account subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid being charged for the next one. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not end the period you have already paid for, and you keep Premium until that period ends.

Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their standard refund policy. Stache cannot issue refunds directly.

Your responsibilities

You agree to provide accurate account information and keep it up to date, keep your login credentials secure, use Stache only for lawful personal use, and not attempt to abuse, disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the service or its AI features.

Account suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, violate these Terms, or engage in fraudulent or unlawful activity.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your expenses, categories, budgets and profile are removed and cannot be recovered. If you want to keep a record, export a statement before deleting. Deleting your account does not by itself cancel an active Apple subscription — cancel that separately in your Apple Account settings.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Stache is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. Stache is a tool to help you track and understand your spending — it is not a financial institution and does not provide financial, tax, or investment advice.

Some features of Stache use artificial intelligence, including receipt scanning and spending insights. AI-generated output may be incomplete or inaccurate: receipts may be misread, expenses may be miscategorised, and insights may contain errors. You are responsible for reviewing the accuracy of your recorded expenses and for verifying your financial records independently against your own bank and card statements.

Stache does not connect to your bank and never asks for your banking credentials. Your records in Stache reflect only what you have entered or scanned, and may not be a complete record of your spending.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of Stache, including financial decisions made in reliance on it. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app changes. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version, and continuing to use Stache after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and any dispute arising from them is subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
